TUCSON — The Buena Colts wrestling team traveled to Canyon Del Oro (CDO) High School for their final dual competition of the year with CDO and Sahuarita High Schools. The Colts began the evening going head to head with CDO's 14 varsity wrestlers. By the final whistle, the final score read: Buena 49 and CDO 24. Up next, the Sahuarita wrestlers hoped to knock off the Colts. Buena came out again on top, winning 66-16 to finish their regular season duals and earned an impressive 11-1 team record.
Going undefeated for the Colts were Ryan Cruz — 106 pounds; Billy Ballesteros — 120 pounds; Jayden Hernandez — 132 pounds; Shane Snyder — 138 pounds; Aidan McCann — 152 pounds; Max Banach — 170 pounds; Chad Clowser — 182 pounds; James Bias — 220 pounds; and Manaia Fruean — 285 pounds.
Picking up wins for the Colts were Anthony Trujillo — 113 pounds, Tommy Hays — 126 pounds and newcomer to the varsity ranks was Josh Kirk 145. CDO coach’s final comment to the Buena coaches was, "You woke us up tonight."
The Buena Colts are headed to El Paso, Texas this weekend to compete in a 32-team tournament while the junior varsity is traveling to Sandra Day O'Connor High School on Saturday for their final tournament of the year.
