SIERRA VISTA — Twenty-four eager pickleball players, consisting of 12 men and 12 women participated in a Memorial Weekend Pickleball Mixed Doubles tournament for fun, at the recently completed pickleball courts facility next to the Oscar Yrun Community Center in Sierra Vista.

After completing the 6-game random draw, round-robin Mixed Doubles preliminaries, Roy Libdan, and Shawngala Pierce were victorious over Dan Harney and Sandy Seaman in the final Championship round robin.

All participants played six mixed double games, all with different partners in each game in this unique format. Roy, with skilled partners also happened to be unbeaten in all 9 of his games. Mike Dalesio and Sheri Weiss placed third, while Bob Pietrus and Sandi Scully were fourth place.

Pickleball is said to be one of America’s fastest growing new sports enjoyed by all ages and genders, all skill levels, with minimal start up costs. While combining elements of tennis, ping-pong, and racquetball, it’s easy to learn. Almost daily play is available by dropping in at these new courts on E. Tucson St. in the early mornings, or Tuesday, Thursday, Friday evenings. Information also available at: www.USAPA.org
