DOUGLAS — The Cochise College women’s basketball team had six players sign National Letters of Intent (NLI) to continue their education and basketball careers at the NCAA Division I and NAIA levels.

Yemiyah Morris, out of Las Vegas, committed on her visit and signed to play for Vic Schaefer at Mississippi State University.

Awa Keita, from Bamako, Mali, signed in November and will be heading to Carbondale, Illinois to play Division I for the Southern Illinois Salukis.

Jazzmyn Hughes, from Marana, Ariz., will be continuing her education and career at the Division I level at The University of Purdue-Fort Wayne.

LaPraisjah Johnson, a transfer from South Plains College, signed her NLI to compete in the Mountain West Conference for the University of Nevada, Reno.

Magatte Sall, a Pittsburgh transfer from Dakar, Senegal will be heading to Indianapolis to join the Marian University Knights in the fall.

Isabel Rodriguez of El Paso will be continuing her education and career at the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Two-year players Morris, Keita, Hughes, and Rodriguez finish their careers with a 57-7 record, two ACCAC championships, two Region One championships and two national tournament appearances.

With the additions of Johnson and Sall for the 2018-19 season as transfers, they led the program to a three-peat as ACCAC and Region One champions.

“We are proud of all of their accomplishments on and off the court. They have won a lot of games here at Cochise, but most importantly they are great people and students,” Coach Laura Hughes said. “We look forward to following their success at the next level.”
