SIERRA VISTA — The Bisbee and Buena high school basketball teams return to the court Tuesday for their fourth game of the 2018-2019 season.

The boys and girls from Buena, as well as Bisbee’s Lady Pumas, hope to extend their winning streaks, while the Bisbee boys aim to return to the win column on their home court. Both teams from Bisbee host region rivals Thatcher High School.

The varsity girls open the set of games at 5:30 p.m. and enter the game on a high as they defeated Morenci, 42-39, on Saturday on the road. The win bumped the Lady Pumas to 2-1 on the season and switched momentum back into their favor after their Thursday loss to Benson in Bisbee. The Lady Pumas will look to have consistent shooting, which propelled them to a win over Pima High School for the first time in two years in their opening contest of the season, and strong press defense to win Tuesday night.

Thatcher is another tough opponent in the the 2A East region for Bisbee. The Eagle girls are first in the region, also sporting a 2-1 record. Thatcher defeated an extremely young Tombstone team Saturday, 70-2, for their first section win. Their lone loss of the season was to the Safford Lady Bulldogs.

As for the Bisbee boys, a win against Thatcher would bring them to .500 on the season. The Pumas lost to Morenci Saturday, 70-50, after beating Benson on their home court Thursday. Thatcher comes to town with a 1-2 record, after snapping a two-game losing streak Saturday with a 58-30 win over Tombstone. Tip-off between the two teams in 7 p.m. in Bisbee.

The Lady Colts look to extend their winning streak to four games Tuesday night in Sierra Vista. Buena welcomes Salpointe Catholic to town for a nonconference matchup.

The home squad enters the game off a 76-64 win over Rio Rico. In the Thursday contest, the Lady Colts were led by juniors Lydia Griffith and Jaslyn Booker. Griffith had a team-high 16 points and Booker netted 14 points. The pair’s success will be important for Buena against Salpointe and throughout the season.

Salpointe Catholic enters Tuesday’s showdown off a 4-point loss to Rio Rico on Nov. 24. The loss shouldn’t be taken lightly as the Lady Lancers opened the 2018-2019 campaign with a 3-1 record at the Boyd Baker Tipoff Classic.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

While the girls battle in Sierra Vista, the Buena boys square off with the Lancers in Tucson. The last time the two teams met, the Colts won on a buzzer beater in Tucson. The Colts travel to Tucson with a 2-0 record and fresh off a 53-51 come-from-behind win. Buena was led by senior Kino Bellinger, who had 18 points. Grant Ward netted 15 points and Jaylen McFadden chipped in eight. Salpointe is also undefeated, as they defeated Rio Rico 83-43 last week. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
