The 151st meeting between the Douglas Bulldogs and the Bisbee Pumas was a wild one as Douglas pulled off a 24-21 win Friday handing Bisbee its first loss of the season while reclaiming The Pick which had been in Bisbee since 2017.
Bisbee jumped out to a 14-0 lead as Diego Chavez and Sebastian Lopez each scored for the Pumas.
Douglas’ Emiliano Berthley had a 25-yard interception return for a score in the second quarter cutting Bisbee's lead to 14-6 at the half.
In the third quarter Kevin Ybarra had a 26-yard TD run and Douglas quarterback Aiden Rodriguez playing in his first ever high school game had two quarterback sneaks for scores as the Bulldogs led 24-14.
Geoffrey Gribble’s seven yard TD run in the fourth quarter pulled the Pumas within three.
After forcing Douglas to punt Bisbee had one last shot to either tie or win the game. Camden Miller’s 52-yard field goal attempt came up about 10-yards short as Douglas held on for the win.
