DOUGLAS — For the fifth year in a row, the Cochise College men’s basketball team has a player named an All-American.
This year, Chris Whitaker was the one who kept the streak alive.
Whitaker was named as a Second-Team All-American, making him one of the top 20 players in the National Junior College Athletic Association at the Division 1 level.
The freshman from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, led the Apaches in scoring at 19.5 points a game while shooting 44 percent from the field.
Whitaker was voted the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year along with a first-team selection on both the All-Conference and All-Region teams.
“We are very excited for Chris. He was able to showcase that he was one of the best players in the country this year,” Cochise Head Coach Jerry Carrillo said. “His natural knack for scoring coupled with his strength and explosion allowed him to play at a high level for us this year.”
