PARKER — The 2021 football season came to a disappointing end for the Willcox Cowboys, who gave a gallant effort for three quarters before losing 36-22 to the top-seeded Parker Broncs in the quarterfinals of the 2A state playoffs Friday.

Parker advances to the state semifinals and will face No 4 seed Morenci Saturday at 6 p.m.

Cowboys quarterback Ayden Fuentes returned after missing last week’s playoff game with an injury, and was 8-of-15 in passing for 85 yards and a touchdown, Junior running back Cristian Pando rushed for 144 yards on 31 carries and scored twice.

Parker led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 22-19 at the half.

Willcox tied the game at 22-22 in the third, taking the opening drive and making a field goal.

Parker scored twice in the fourth quarter, ending Willcox’s season.

More on this game, including comments from Willcox coach Eric Hjalmarson, will be in Wednesday’s county edition of the Herald/Review.
