SAFFORD — The Douglas Bulldogs had their hands full Friday with the Safford Bulldogs, who were looking to extend their three-game winning streak.

Safford jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead and posted a convincing 42-0 win.

Safford scored three straight times it had the ball in the second quarter, taking a 35-0 lead at the half.

“Tough loss tonight,” Douglas coach Hunter Long said after the game. “Our guys came out flat and Safford jumped all over it and we couldn’t ever get the wheels going. Unfortunately, we came into the game missing a couple key starters that went out during the week and we lost a couple during this game. So, with a tough Thatcher team coming up we’re going to have to regroup, refocus and get a lot of things figured out this coming week.”

Douglas (1-1) returns to Graham County next Friday as the Bulldogs take on another undefeated team, the 4-0 Thatcher Eagles, who beat Tucson Sabino 45-28 Friday. The game will be played at Eastern Arizona College.
