DHS tennis kicks off season

Douglas’ Paulette Vildosola, playing No. 1 singles for the Lady Bulldogs, returns a serve in her singles match March 4. Vildosola was defeated 7-6, 6-4.

Both the Douglas Bulldog and Lady Bulldog tennis teams kicked off their seasons last week.

The Bulldogs were in Tucson on Tuesday, March 3 where they defeated the Sahuaro Cougars 8-1 while the Lady Bulldogs had their season opener pushed back a day by Mother Nature to Wednesday, March 4, where they were defeated by Sahuaro 6-3 at the DHS tennis courts.

In the boys match, Konnor Cormier, playing No. 1 singles for Douglas, 6-2, 6-1.

Christian Pena, playing at No.2 singles and Adan Rodriguez, at No. 3 singles, both won their matches by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0.

Luis Flores, playing No. 4 singles, Adrian Arciniega, at No. 5 singles and Juan Carlos Cruz, at No. 6 singles, all won their matches 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Flores and Rodriguez were 8-6 winners; Cormier and Arciniega were 8-1 winners and Pena and Carlos Giron were 8-0 winners.

In the girls match, Paulette Vildosola, playing No. 1 singles for the Lady Bulldogs, was defeated 7-6, 6-4 in her singles match.

Andrea Larios, playing in the No. 2 slot for Douglas, fell 6-3, 6-1.

Arianna Villegas, at No. 3 singles lost her first set 6-0, won her second 7-5 and then lost the third set 10-5.

Emily Gonzales, won her No. 4 singles match in three sets losing the first set 5-7 before reeling off two straight wins, 6-1 and 11-9.

Zuelma Ayon, playing in the No. 5 singles spot for Douglas, won her first set 3-6, before dropping the next two 6-4 and 10-6.

Anahi Jimenez Felix, playing No. 6 singles for Douglas, was a 6-1, 6-2 winner.

In doubles play, Douglas’ top doubles team of Vildosola and Felix fell 6-3; Villegas and Larios were beaten 6-0, and Gonzales and Ayon were 6-3 winners.
