There will be no Little League baseball in Douglas this summer.
The Douglas Little League board of directors made the decision Thursday evening to cancel the 2020 season citing uncertainty in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Registration numbers released at the meeting indicate that 320 local kids will be impacted by the cancellation.
“After extensive discussions between the board and community members, the board was torn in deciding the fate for Douglas Little League,” Robert Rodriguez, President of Douglas Little League said in a statement released after the meeting. “With the safety and well-being first and foremost, the Douglas Little League board with a 60 percent majority vote, decided to cancel the season. I wish everyone to continue to stay healthy, stay safe, and continue the love for the game. We look forward to your continued support as we begin to prepare for the 2021 Douglas Little League season.”
League officials announced they will be issuing 100 percent refunds to all fully paid players and to please allow two to three weeks for the league to issue those refunds.
“We will be in contact with your players manager to schedule a date and pick-up times for the refund,” Rodriguez said.
