Friday’s much anticipated 2A San Pedro Region football showdown between the Willcox Cowboys and the Pima Roughriders, two teams tied for first place, has been cancelled.

Willcox was 6-0 overall, 1-0 in San Pedro Region play, Pima was 4-2 overall, 1-0 in region play.

A statement on the Willcox High School Football Facebook page states, “After several positive tests on our varsity team we have decided to cancel all practice and our game tomorrow. The health and well being of our players, staff and families is our top priority at this time.”

A statement on the Eastern Arizona Courier Facebook page, is reporting, “Pima High School Principal Cody Barlow said tomorrow night's game against Willcox has been canceled due to COVID-19-related issues in Willcox. The team is hoping to find another opponent.”

Updates on this situation will be added as they become available.

No word yet when, or if, this game will be made up at a later date.
