City of Benson hosts first country music festival

For anyone who missed Country Thunder, or those that want even more tunes, the City of Benson will host its own country music festival.

On Saturday the driving range at the San Pedro Valley Golf Course will be turned into a concert venue for locals and visitors to enjoy country music performed by several bands.

Caiden Brewer opens the festival from 3 to 4 p.m. He is followed by Patrick Rayl & the .357 Band from Hereford, Boomtown from Safford and Backroads will close the night from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

“We thought we needed to start with local musicians,” said Barbara Thompson, administrative assistant to the Benson city manager and event coordinator. “We haven’t done this particular event before and we’re hoping to make it an annual event.”

The festival is intended to be a family affair as children under five are admitted for free and those 6 to 14 years old enter at a reduced cost of $10. A kids zone will be set up with a trackless train, a five-sport complex and bungee run.

“We’re really excited to offer something new to Cochise County,” Thompson said.

During the breaks in between acts, attendees will be able to shop the more than 30 vendors slated to be at the event. Thompson said the vendors range from retail to food and drink.

Presale tickets are available through the City of Benson’s website and through the events Facebook tickets for $20. Presale tickets will be available until 3 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets purchased at the gate will be $25.
