For a fun pre-Easter family celebration, stop by Huachuca City Park on Saturday and join the 17th annual Easter egg hunt.
Hosted by the Sisters of Condon Chapter No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star, the community event features a list of activities for children, including a giant Easter bunny, games, gift baskets and a family barbecue.
“Our Brothers from George W. Prioleau Prince Hall Masonic Lodge are helping us with the event again this year,” said Anita Harris, one of the organizers. “We always have a lot going on, with children racing around enjoying the games and music, and a wonderful barbecue.”
Festivities are from 10 a.m. until noon, with the egg hunt starting early.
Along with the usual hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks, Subway and Pizza Hut also are providing food for the crowd, Harris said.
“We’re going to have games, face painting, prizes and a gift bag for every child, presented by our Easter bunny,” Harris said.
Children are divided into age groups for the egg hunt, from pre-kindergarten up through eighth-graders.
“One child from every age group will have a chance to find the golden egg, with a special prize awarded to the lucky children who find it,” said Melba Richards, the event’s committee chair.
The Masonic Lodge sisters started putting gift baskets together a few months ahead of the event, along with more than 100 gift bags, so each child receives a prize, Richards said.
“We typically have more than 100 children participating in our egg hunt, and they all have so much fun,” she said. “It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the start of Easter and is always well attended, so come out and join us on Saturday for games, prizes and a free barbecue. We look forward to seeing all of you.”
