This weekend, over 40 bull riders from six states as well as Mexico will converge on Sierra Vista for the Third Annual 2019 SSVEC Where They Buck Invitational Bull Riding & Concert.
Along with bull riding, there will be crowd-pleasing events like mutton busting, junior bull riding competitions, food, drinks, live music and more.
Wacey Barta, event creator and founder of Where They Buck, a network built around bull riding, said he has always dreamed of bringing a big bull-riding event to his hometown of Sierra Vista. They did their first one in 2017.
“This is where I started riding bulls. I graduated from Buena, my folks have always lived here and I’ve always wanted to put on an event here,” he said. “When I learned the riding club had such an awesome facility, I began speaking with them.
“I’ve always wanted to bring a big event to my hometown, a bull-riding event done well, put on for the community to be proud of, something Sierra Vista can hang their hat on.”
The event will take place at the Sierra Vista Riding Club located at 675 Giulio Cesare Ave.
On Friday night, there will be a family fun kickoff party starting at 5 p.m.
Youth will compete in steer riding, mini bulls and junior bull riding with a chance to qualify for the junior nationals in Las Vegas.
There will also be live music by Hollywood & The Hitmen.
On Saturday, gates open at 4 p.m. with mutton busting at 6 p.m. and the main bull riding event at 7 p.m.
Competition participants will be competing for $20,000 in cash and prizes.
A live concert by country group Jack Bishop Band will follow.
Each night, there will be plenty of food and drinks to enjoy, including both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.
Tickets for the event can be purchased ahead of time at Spur Western Wear, the Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerce or Native Grill and Wings, as well as at the door.
