SIERRA VISTA — Arizona Game & Fish’s Tucson sector is asking the community’s help after two javelinas were found dead in Sierra Vista.
Arizona Game & Fish responded to the scene Sunday afternoon after receiving a tip. The javelinas were found with bullet wounds near Calle Alamo and Barataria Boulevard off of Moson Road.
Mark Hart, public information officer for The Arizona Game & Fish Tucson sector, said the investigation is still ongoing which is why more details haven’t been released. However, investigators suspect the javelina bodies were killed at a different site and the bodies were dumped at the location they were found.
“Javelina are a big game species so they are huntable if you have a license and you need a big game tag for a specific animal and location during the proper season,” Hart said.
Poaching can carry penalty of a second degree misdemeanor charge, with a maximum of six months in jail and a $750 fine. The Game & Fish Commission, which is a panel appointed by the governor, can levy a fine based on the worth of the animal and can revoke hunting licenses, if the offender has one.
Arizona Game & Fish’s Tucson sector is asking that anyone with any information to call 800-352-0070 and reference OGT #19-001552.
