VFW Friday dinners break

The Friday dinners at Benson VFW Post 6271 will be on hiatus until August.

USMC/Legion Riders’ breakfast: The Marine Corps Detachment and Legion Riders hold their monthly breakfast on the first Saturday monthly, May 4, 8 to 10 a.m., serving biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, coffee or juice. Cost is $6.

Bunco fundraiser: Play Bunco May 16 at Cochise College Benson Center to help raise money in the fight against cancer. Pot luck, prizes. A $10 buy-in all for charity. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the center, 1025 SR-90. Bunco is a social dice game involving 100 percent luck.

2nd Annual Anti-bullying awareness event: The community at Ramona Morales Apartments is holding an anti-bullying awareness event at the Benson School football field parking lot, Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring vendors, guest speakers and entertainment. Battle of the Badges Softball Tournament: May 4 in Sierra Vista with FOPA Lodge No. 28 as a co-host at Domingo Paiz Fields 1&2. Tournament to feature 12 teams, players must be 18 years and older, using USSSA rules. Bring your own softballs. Sierra Vista Police-Sierra Vista Fire Department will play at 8 a.m. Team sign in at 8 a.m. with bracket play starting at 9 a.m., 50/50 raffle, $15 home run bands Contact Kierstin Kessler at (520) 559-4596 for team registration costs and additional details. Thriving on Plants: Plant-based education/support group’s monthly meeting Wednesday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m., with Steve Nath chronicling his journey from illness to health through a whole food plant based diet. Call Dee at (520) 224-4081 for information/directions.

Word Crafters meet: The San Pedro Valley Word Crafters, a writer’s group in town, meet and network with writers of all genres, skill levels, published and unpublished, on the second and fourth Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Benson Public Library, 300 S. Benson Beatification fundraiser: Benson Beautification is holding an art class on May 11, at Benson Community Center, 705 W. Union St., from noon to 3 p.m. Alcohol ink is the technique “and loads of colorful fun!” The $25 fee covers all supplies. All proceeds benefit Benson Beautification’s mural program. CPR training in Mescal: The Mescal-J6 Fire District offers CPR training. Classes are held monthly. Cost is $35 for Basic Heartsaver CPR or $40 for BLS Healthcare Providers.
