BISBEE — The Subway Gallery will hold its first show of the year Saturday, Jan. 14, with Cheyenne McMasters’ presentation of Unexpected Adventures. The artist’s reception will be from 5-8 p.m. The show will continue through Feb. 5.
McMasters has invited guest artist Betsy Breault, a longtime Bisbee artist, who was one of the original Subway Gallery members, to join her for this show. She will present Breaking of her Waters. Breault was the former owner of La Chasse Gallery in Bisbee for about 20 years, where she and MacMasters had presented shows together.
MacMasters studied photography and painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, which led to work retouching the black-and-white photographs of Robert Mapplethorpe and Berenice Abbott. MacMasters continued her education of drawing classes online with The School of Visual Arts thanks to a scholarship from the Bisbee Foundation.
Three semesters of caricature bootcamp freed her of any preconceived approach and introduced color into her paintings which until then, had been primarily black-and-white.
Come meet the artists, have a glass of wine, beer or other nonalcoholic beverage, enjoy some finger food and conversation Saturday night at the Subway Gallery, 43 Brewery Gulch.
