A popular ladies’ boutique, known for its unique fashions, jewelry, stylish shoes, handbags and home accessories, is closing its doors after five years in business.
Style 161, located at 161 E. Wilcox Drive in Sierra Vista, was started by Diane Johnson and Judy Dragoo in August 2014, with Vicki Torrey as one of the shop’s main vendors. After Dragoo moved to Gilbert three years ago, Torrey stepped in as a business partner with Johnson.
“Vicki was one of our vendors from the time the shop opened and was always very involved with the business,” Johnson said. “She loves antiques, jewelry, and the clothes we carry and has always contributed so much to the store.”
While Johnson and Torrey have enjoyed running the shop and the friends they’ve made through the customer base, both women want to retire.
“I’ll miss the people, but I won’t miss the long hours,” Torrey said. “The business has been a lot of fun, but it’s time for us to retire.”
As the two business partners prepare to close the store, prices on most items have been slashed, some by as much as 60 percent. And customers are swooping in on the great bargains. In addition to the clothes and accessories, there is a $5 table filled with jewelry and household items, as well as a $2 table.
“I love everything about this boutique,” said Mattie Bradford, one of the shop’s regular customers. “It’s one of my favorite places for clothes. Diane and Vicki are great to work with. I’m really going to miss this place.”
On Saturday, customers were browsing through the store, some with armloads of clothes, handbags and other items.
“This is bittersweet,” said Connie Westberg. “We love the great deals, but hate the idea of saying goodbye to such a wonderful little store. It’s like saying goodbye to a close friend.”
Style 161 is set to close on June 22. Store hours are Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the closing date.
