Martinez attributes her high school success to her parents.
“My parents are very supportive and have always been there when I needed them,” she said. “I couldn’t imagine my life without them.”
Martinez has enjoyed growing up in Douglas because of its mixture of cultures, traditions and the community’s kindness.
As a student of CAS since fourth grade, Martinez she’s fortunate to have grown up with some of her closest friends for the past eight years.
She has a 4.0 grade point average and, because of a lot of hard work, determination and support, Martinez was able to maintain a 4.0 grade point average throughout her four years of high school.
When it comes to extracurricular activities, Martinez has served as student council secretary.
“Being the student council secretary is a position I enjoyed,” she said. “It has been a wonderful experience and I’m hoping to be able to use the skills I’ve learned while serving on council in the future.”
Martinez has enjoyed attending CAS because of its family-oriented environment and supportive staff and peers.
“If I was having a difficult time, I knew I could always turn to my teachers and peers for help.”
When she looks back on her high school years, Martinez says one of the experiences she will always remember is when her class went to Tucson to watch a live play about the Bronte family.
“It was an exciting experience because it was the first time I had been to a play,” she said. “I learned a lot from it. What I also enjoyed about the trip was that everyone was together. There weren’t multiple groups. We were all just one group as a team.”
As she looks toward the future, Martinez plans to attend Cochise College, where she’ll study business administration. From junior college she plans to go to a university, work on a more advanced business degree and eventually start her own business.
Martinez has these words of advice for future graduates: “Be responsible and take things one step at a time. Do not rush and enjoy what’s in front of you. Also remember to always hold yourself accountable, especially when things may not be going your way.”
