BENSON — If you haven’t experienced a cave tour at Kartchner Caverns State Park or taken advantage of the camping opportunities on the park’s grounds, you might be interested in these summer discounts.

Starting immediately, Cochise County residents and military personnel are eligible for a $5 discount on cave tours, while Arizona residents living outside of Cochise County can receive a $3 discount.

The park is also offering discounts at its campgrounds. Purchase five nights of camping and get two nights free, regardless of residency or military status.

“This is a wonderful time of year to visit the park,” said Park Manager Jake McCoy. “We’re in our off-season right now. The summer months are not quite as busy, so we’re offering the discounts to give locals and military an opportunity to visit the cave at a reduced cost. The monsoon season causes the park to green up and it’s a beautiful time to visit the park. Our elevation is right at 4,600 feet, so it’s cooler here than Phoenix and Tucson by at least 12 degrees and cools off by about 30 degrees at night.”

Another natural attraction that McCoy mentioned is the area’s spectacular night sky.

“The campgrounds have hot showers, restrooms and electrical and water hookups,” he said. “We also have two beautiful hiking trails to explore the Whetstone Mountains”.

For those who haven’t stepped into the park visitor center recently, be sure to look at the three new murals by local artist Doug Quarles.

The cave tour discounts cannot be combined with other coupons or discounts, McCoy noted. To receive a discount, make a reservation by calling 877-697-2757, or by going to the park in person and mentioning the discount. Be prepared to show identification or proof of residency or military status upon arrival at the park.

Kartchner Caverns State Park is located at 290 S. Highway 90.
