WILLCOX — Palace of Art and Theater will host a performance of energetic folk/pop by acoustic duo Ryanhood on Jan. 27, an evening featuring Cameron Hood’s rich and folky lead vocals, Ryan Green’s explosive guitar and mandolin riffs.
Ryanhood is currently on tour promoting their eighth effort together, Under the Leaves, an album released in 2021.
Cameron and Ryan call Tucson home. They each played for bands while attending University High School where they met and started the due shortly after. The duo’s debut album, “Sad and Happiness,” was released in 2003.
They’ve laid deep musical roots in The Old Pueblo, where they have won more than a dozen Tucson Music Awards, including “Best Folk Band” and “Best Rock Band.” The Arizona Daily Star, the town’s daily newspaper, to call them, “a match made in radio heaven.”
Their first break came after being spotted by a college booking agent as street performers at Boston’s Quincy Market.
Thrust into the college touring scene, where Campus Activities Magazine would name them “one of the most requested acts by college buyers all across the country,” they performed more than 1000 shows in 45 states.
Over the past decade they’ve shared stages with Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson, Train, and other notable musicians, and were named ‘Best Group/Duo’ in the 2014 International Acoustic Music Awards.
They were recently named the “Discovery of the Year” by John Platt at WFUV New York City and were profiled Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
“The duo’s rock roots are evident in their high-energy performances but their music taps into contemporary folk and pop too, showcasing tight vocal harmonies as much as instrumental interplay,” Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
This most recent release, Under the Leaves, sees Green stepping into the role of sole producer, weaving a tapestry of lush strings and rich harmonies.
The album, like their shows, is driven by strong acoustic guitar performances and is at turns energetic, hopeful, and quietly moving—a musical invitation to breathe, and to soak in a river of melodies and harmonic hooks.
Palace of Art and Theater is at the Willcox Theater, at 116 N Railroad Ave, show starts at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15, general admission, and $12 for students, seniors, and military.
