A Sierra Vista motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon after possibly suffering a medical incident while riding between Tombstone and Sierra Vista.

According to Carol Capas, a spokeswoman with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, the department received a call at 12:58 p.m. about a motorcycle accident at mile post 9 on Charleston Road.

Eight minutes later, the Sierra Vista Police Department arrived on scene and found the rider of the Yamaha cruisers down and unresponsive, Capas said. The motorcyclist is a man from Sierra Vista, but his identity was not available Wednesday evening.

Police began CPR immediately and shortly afterward medics arrived. However, the man was eventually pronounced deceased. The investigation is still ongoing, but it appears the man suffered a medical event before crashing, Capas said.

At 1:15 p.m. the Tombstone Marshal's Office closed the Tombstone end of Charleston to keep motorists from entering the roadway, Capas said. The road was open by 3:15 p.m., she said.

Hatfield Funeral Home transported the body to the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner, she said.
