Alexander (Alex) Clinton Black, 73, of Douglas, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014.
Alex was born July 28, 1940 in Syracuse, New York.
He served in the army as a Hawk Missile Battery Technician. After leaving the army Alex became a firefighter in Syracuse and was a firefighter there until he retired in 1986.
Alex was an avid photographer and for many years was the official photographer at the Miss New York State Pageant.
Alex and his parents visited Douglas in 1959 and they loved the area and climate. After retiring from the fire department in 1986 Alex and his mother, Vivian Black, moved to Douglas. While here he was a regular visitor of the Douglas Fire Department and was considered the official fire department photographer. He photographed most of the fires in town.
It was Alex’s wish that he be cremated and that there be no services. There are plans for a memorial plaque and ceremony at the Douglas Fire Department sometime in the future.
