SIERRA VISTA— Edward “Big Ed” Korza, 82, passed away on 7 June 2019 after a hard-fought battle with heart and kidney diseases. Ed was born on November 24, 1936, to the late Bruno and Anna Korza of New Britain, Connecticut. He attended and graduated from New Britain High School and then moved on to both the University of Connecticut and the United States Army where he served primarily in Germany. Upon returning to the US, he remained in Reserve status while he furthered his education at Central Connecticut College and from where he graduated in 1964 with a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. He married the late Barbara E (Boyle) Korza in August of 1959 and they resided in New Britain where they were both active and respected members of the community. Upon the death of Barbara in 1996 Ed then moved to Sierra Vista, AZ to be closer to his family and to enjoy his retirement in sunshine and warmth. Golf became his passion, and he enjoyed exploring courses throughout the desert Southwest. Ed was also a member of the American Legion Post 24 in Tombstone, AZ.

Ed leaves behind two daughters, Kathleen B (Korza) Wozniak of Sierra Vista, AZ and Meghan A (Korza) Peterson of North Hills, California along with their husbands, his sons in law, Jon Schweitzer and Erik Peterson. Ed’s grandchildren, Vanessa A (Wozniak) Walsh, Matthew P Wozniak, and Kyle E Peterson were untold joys to Ed, and he shone with pride at their every accomplishment. Ed’s late-life joy was his first and only great-grandson, Ethan Walsh. He also leaves behind his sister, Jane (Korza) Piorkowski of Wethersfield, CT and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on 14 June 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Hatfield Funeral Home on Hwy 92 in Sierra Vista with a celebration of life immediately following at James R “Bob” Currieo VFW Post 9972 at 549 Veterans Drive also in Sierra Vista.
