Johnney A. Powers, III (Jack), 88
SIERRA VISTA–Johnney A. Powers, III (Jack), 88, a retired USAF Colonel and fighter pilot, died May 9, 2019. Jack had spent 33 dedicated years serving in the Air Force. He was a Command Pilot and flew numerous aircraft throughout his distinguished career. These included the F-86D, B-47, B-58, and the F-4. He spent his career in numerous locales all around the world. His final assignment was at the Pentagon in the Defence Intelligence Agency as Intelligence Director. Jack had an affinity for technology. Even through is 80’s he always insisted on having the latest and greatest smartphones and gadgets out there. He always had the center of attention during gatherings as his laugh and sense of humor were incredibly contagious.
He was born in San Antonio, Texas to Arlis and John Powers, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Violet Powers, her son Alan (Cindy) Jothen of Sierra Vista, and his four children: Catherine (Jeff) Whynot of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Lisa (Steve) Gertsch of Wilburn, Arkansas, Susan Powers and Mark (Lisa) Powers both of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his son Johnny Powers, IV (age 31). He has 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service to be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 S. Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, on Friday May 17 at 1:00 p.m.
