SIERRA VISTA – Kenneth “Ken” A. Wachsman, 69, a long-time Sierra Vista resident, died May 4, 2019, of unexpected complications following surgery.
Ken was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he graduated from Midwestern State University.
His graduate studies and quest for mountains led him to the math department at Arizona State University (Tempe), and, later, to the University of Colorado (Boulder).
A Civil Service retiree, Ken began his Federal career at Fort Huachuca in 1974 in the Army Communications Command Comptroller (now NETCOM G-8), where he met his future wife, Doris Dixon. Following diverse assignments, he retired as an electronics engineer from the Joint Interoperability Test Command in 2006.
In addition to his loving wife and partner, Doris, Ken is survived by siblings Lisa Wachsman, Lloyd Wachsman, Linda Wachsman, Marjorie (Harry) Fitzgerald, Rosalie (Arvin) Peters, Florene (Frank) Quintero, and Robert (Virginia) Wachsman. Ken’s sister Lois (Leon) Lagesse predeceased him, as did his parents, Eleanor and Leo Wachsman.
Ken also is survived by shared siblings Freddie Dixon, Victor Dixon, and Sherry McMenemy-Dixon, and by close nephews Matthew (Micaela) McMenemy and Anthony McMenemy. His dear mother-in-law, Hisako “Judy” Dixon, and siblings Marge (Rob Graf) Dixon and Mark Dixon predeceased him, as well. His loss also touches many other nieces, nephews, family members, and good friends. Ken’s family paid him tribute during private services in June.
