SIERRA VISTA—On Mother’s Day, Heaven summoned an angel from the earth. Our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Lenore Gladys Roukas, 96, answered the call and took her journey to Heaven on May 14th, 2023.
Lenore was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 29th, 1927 to the late Samuel and Ida (Abrams) Katz. She was better known to all as “Yia Yia.” She peacefully passed on from her life here on earth into the afterlife to join her loving husband, George, a.k.a. “Papou,” and her daughters, Cynthia Bawiec and Donna DeMarinis where they can be together once again and watch over their families here on earth.
Lenore joined the United States Army in August of 1944 and was a veteran of WWII. She was a proud member of the VFW Post 9972.
Yia Yia is survived by her two daughters, Laurie Bennett (Joe Vanatta) and Wendy Moore, of Sierra Vista, Arizona; son, Steven (Lorraine) Bawiec of Waldwick, New Jersey; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, May 21st, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the VFW Post 9972, located at 549 W Veteran’s Drive, Sierra Vista, Arizona.
