MSG Joel Henry Childs, 89 United States Army, Ret.
SIERRA VISTA—Joel Henry Childs was born in Shaw, Mississippi on March 8th, 1930. He passed from this life on Friday, May 31st, 2019.
Joel served in the United States Army for 22 years as a Crypto Security Specialist. On one of his trips in 1956, he met and fell in love with his first wife, Yvonne Perkins Childs. To this union three children were born: Joel, Gary, and Debbie. They were married almost 41 years until her passing in 1997.
Joel and his family moved to Sierra Vista in 1972. He retired from military service in 1973 with the rank of Master Sergeant. After retiring, Joel worked in construction.
Joel met and fell in love with his soul mate, Beatrice (Bea) Hudgens; they were married July 15, 2000 in Arkansas. He swept Bea off her feet and moved her to Arizona.
Along with Bea, Joel was blessed with additional family. Joel ended up having three step-sons Steven, Jeff, and Jason, and one step-daughter, Lisa.
Joel loved the Lord, his family, and enjoyed spending time outside, whether hunting and fishing or working around the house.
Joel was preceded in death by both parents, John Elbert Childs and Hattie Mae Marshall Childs; brothers, Clyde and Terrell Childs; sister, Patricia Childs; first wife, Yvonne Perkins Childs; and son-in-law, Fred Sineath.
Joel is survived by two sisters, Susie and Janie; and brother Billy. He is also survived by his wife Beatrice; Children — Joel S. (Theresa) Childs of Hereford; Gary (Marita) Childs of Tucson; Debbie (Govnor) Weaver of Hereford; step-children, Steven (Johnnie) Hudgens of Norfork, Arkansas; Jeff (Jackie) Hudgens of Mt.Home, Arkansas; Lisa (Leonard) Taylor of Sierra Vista; Jason (Melody) Hudgens of Dolph, Arkansas; and 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Old Post Cemetery on Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
