Obituary for Retired Sgt. First Class Nathaniel Allen, August 23, 1931 - March 11, 2019

SIERRA VISTA — Mr. Nathaniel Allen died peacefully at his caregivers’ home in Sierra Vista, Arizona, on Monday, March 11, 2019.

Mr. Allen was born August 23, 1931 in Oxford, North Carolina. He joined the military in March 17, 1952 and retired as a SFC after serving 20 years. His accomplishments included the National Defense Service Medal (w/1st OLC), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Bars and 3 Good Conduct Medals. After his military career, he worked for Civil Service and retired with over 20 years of service. Mr. Allen married Hildegard on July 14, 1958, and had four children and settled here in the Sierra Vista community.

Mr. Allen was a devoted member and past Master of George W Prioleau Lodge 13, Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Mason Jurisdiction of Arizona Inc; Grand Inspector General 33rd Degree, Noah Consistory No. 55, Valley of Tucson, Oasis of Arizona, Honorary Past Potentate, Scimitar Temple No. 108, Oasis of Tucson, Desert of Arizona, Ancient Egyptians Arabic Order Noble of the Mystic Shrine, North and South America Inc., Prince Hall Affiliated.

Mr. Allen was an avid Redskins fan and enjoyed all sports in general.

Mr. Allen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. If you knew him, you know that he never mixed his words and that anything he wanted you to know was spoken. He was kind and generous and offered support to others in need. It is certain that we never lose the people we love, even in death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. His love will leave an indelible imprint in our memories.

He is preceded in death by his parents John H and Lula (Russell) Allen; siblings, John E, James, Josephine, Walter, Lucille, Bernice and Cornelius; loving wife, Hildegard Allen; beloved son, William (Willie) Allen; and grandsons, Cornelius “Cornell” Forbes-Haynes, Jarmelle Forbes-Haynes and baby Nathaniel Allen.

Survivors include his daughters, Marjorie Haynes (James) and Loretta Yorke (Ty); and his son, Ronald Allen (Angela). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

When GOD created man, he created the perfect mold, our father, Nathaniel Allen. Our father was a loyal, respected, honest, and hardworking man that always provided for his family. He will forever be in our hearts.

Visitation is Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 09:30 to 10:30 am at the Greater Antioch Baptist Church at 147 S. Huachuca Blvd, Huachuca City, Arizona 85616. A Masonic Service is at 10:30 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.
