Thomas Edward (Grunkle) Tierney, 78

SIERRA VISTA — Thomas Tierney was born in Kingman, Arizona on September 4th, 1940 to Sarah Annabelle Tierney and Shelby Patrick Tierney. Tom passed away at his home on June 1st, 2019.

Tom was a member of the US Navy for three and a half years, and of the civil service from the early 1960s until his retirement in 1993. While in the Navy, Tom earned The Domain of the Golden Dragon for crossing the 180th meridian in 1961. Tom founded the Huachuca Prospectors Associations in the early 1990s after retiring to Sierra Vista and enjoyed spending time with his close friends, Kat Crockett and George Whitmill, at their vineyard in Elgin. Tom was also a dedicated member of the NRA and the Rocky Mountian Elk foundation and often taught prospecting classes at Cochise College.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Shelby Tierney; and by his siblings, Patrick Kile Tierney, and Mary Ousey. He is survived by his nieces, Kathy A. Story, Teresa Carson, Deborah Logan, Sarah T. Story, Jennifer Story, and Linda Tierney; and by his nephews, Mike Tierney, Patrick Shelby Tierney, Thomas Tierney, Michael Story, and Greg Kirk.

Services will be held on Friday, June 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery 1300 S Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, AZ, 85635.
