SIERRA VISTA—Thomas Joseph “T.J.” Lynch, died March 23, 2023, at the age of 67 after a long illness. T.J. was born April 9, 1955, in Wyatt, Missouri to William and Sumie “Peggy” Lynch and later moved to Sierra Vista. He attended Carmichael Elementary School as well as Buena High School.
He had a long career as a news and feature photographer at the Sierra Vista Herald/Bisbee Daily Review and also working on Ft. Huachuca Military Base later in life with various companies. He was named Photographer of the Year by the Arizona Press Club in the early 1980s, beating out photographers at every other state newspaper (including the much larger Arizona Republic and the Arizona Daily Star).
T.J. was an excellent fisherman and enjoyed camping and the outdoors. He also loved music, travel, cooking and spending time with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Sumie “Peggy” Takai and William Lynch. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Cumba. His grandchildren; Eric Lynch, Jacob Netherby, Mercedes Cumba, Aleesia Cumba and Hector “Nito” Cumba Jr. His four great-grandchildren; Zayden, Lilliana, Luciano and Sophia. And his cat Ninja.
