The Golden Apple Award is a means to recognize and honor some of our outstanding teachers, paraprofessionals, coaches and school support staff. Educators and the staff that supports their efforts are most important in nurturing our children’s inquisitive minds and preparing them for the challenges of the future.
One Golden Apple Recipient will be selected from the following categories:
• Elementary • Middle School/Junior High • High School • Career/Tech Education • Special Education • Fine arts/Music education • Principal/Headmaster • Paraprofessional • Support Staff (office, custodial, cafeteria)
We will also award the “Crystal Apple Award” to one outstanding nominee who will receive $500 to use for classroom initiatives or to support the recipient’s continued professional development. Golden Apple Award recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony in April.
Eligibility Candidates are teachers, paraprofessionals, coaches, support staff from elementary school through grade 12. Candidates can be from public, parochial, charter or home schools. Candidates for this award have demonstrated excellence in teaching and involvement in the community outside the school.
Nomination Criteria The nominee exhibits, but not limited to, the following characteristics: • Creates a love of learning in students of all abilities and backgrounds • Stimulates thought and provokes student dialogue • Challenges students to reach high standards and expectations • Understands the needs of students individually and collectively, and meets those needs with determination, enthusiasm and imagination • Involves families in the education process • Promotes positive behaviors in and outside the classroom environment
Nomination Process Based on the nomination criteria, candidates may be nominated for the Golden Apple Award by colleagues, students, and/or community members. Deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, February 1, 2019.
Selection Process The Selection Committee reviews the nominations and qualifies them for the selection process.
Awards Ceremony The Academic All Star and Golden Apple Award recipients are invited to a breakfast in their honor on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 10 a.m. to noon at Cochise College Sierra Vista’s Student Union. Breakfast will be served starting at 9:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Academic All Star and Golden Apple recipients will be announced at the ceremony.
